Information about the Greatworth Golf Society

Greatworth Golf Society was formed in 1991 by Dave Ashford, Eamon Doran and Derek Goode, and to this day has continued and maintained the ethos that was set up in the original constitution.

It offers 10 main trophy competitions, including a singles match-play knock-out and a pairs competition, played annually at top quality courses. In addition, we have a supplementary Brass Man event, where each winner chooses the next venue and format.

Captains Day is played at a local course and concludes with a social charity fund raising evening.  This comprises some fun games with prizes and often musical entertainment. Also, a supper is provided (buffet or fish & chips).

The annual dinner and presentation evening, where members receive their well-earned trophies, also provides a superb meal and entertainment.  The society is well run by a hard-working committee and has a handicap system that ensures that all players at any level can compete together in a fair and consistent way.

The society has its own dedicated website where members can sign up for competitions, check results and scores and generally be kept well informed of all activities and events.  The objective is to play serious and competitive golf, but more importantly have a lot of fun and enjoyment on the way.

We are always looking to welcome new members.  Please refer to the “Village Organisations” page on this website or to “The Glimpse of Greatworth” Golf Society monthly news for contact information.
